6 Tips for Buying Furniture

Buying furniture can be fun and exciting, but it can also be stressful!  Furniture is expensive, and you want to make sure you are investing in pieces that you will love for years to come.  It also sets the tone for your living space, which can have a large effect on your day to day life.  A lot is on the line! Here are 6 tips to help you make the right decisions when buying furniture.

1. SIT

Sit and check for comfortable cushions that are properly tailored.  Pay attention to the arm height and if the depth of the furniture fits you and the room.

2. ASK

Ask questions. Most furniture is available with cushion, fabric or leather options. Ask to look at other furniture similar to your first pick and compare prices and product. Ask for a copy or schematic of the furniture, especially sectionals.  They can assist with the furniture placement in your home.

3. STYLE

Shopping is the perfect time to define your own personal style. After you have sat in enough chairs and asked many-many questions, your style will evolve. Excellent design defines style. Knowing your style will give you shopping confidence.

4. STUDY

Look beneath the surface. Quality manufacturers use sufficient support, wood (not plastic), and quality springs. The finish should not bubble or show brush marks.

5. SALE

Regularly shop the retailers in your area and you will recognize a genuine sale. Leather with a slight mark, wood finish with a scratch or small dents & scratches in general make great bargains. Consider these items “aged” or gently broken in furniture. Ask retailers for their sale dates or ask to be put on a mailing list.

6. HAVE FUN

Most sales people go out of their way to accommodate a genuine shopper. Genuine relationships always pave the way to better purchases! Engage in social media with retailers as they tend to post special promotions.  Advance notice of sales can be very helpful!
